drawing from observation

Drawing from observation is a different experience to drawing from reference. It could be argued to be more valuable, perhaps because drawing from life is more of a challenge than from a picture. Movement, distance, changing light sources and time are some of the challenges that may occur when drawing from life. Then again observational studies are not always readily available and a reference picture will make a worthy substitute.

In this exercise I again pushed forward with the notion of this image making being a translation rather than a direct copy. Interestingly, my first drawing ended up being the most stylised by accident after a rogue brushstroke of darker than expected colour. This challenge to adapt to this mistake resulted in the most interesting looking drawing of the lot.
