- I managed to create a wide range of theme ideas, although a couple of those developed off the back of others. I fell short of the recommended 260 drawings, namely in a lack of ideas for many letters of the alphabet. I began to create variations of single ideas, but not nearly enough to create a finalised image from them.
- A lot of the ideas came directly from my imagination, but could have been further supported with external research. The theme I particularly spent time on researching was the Soviet Space typology. It was interesting and challenging to illustrate something immediately after learning it, with not much knowledge to back it up!
- Visualising abstract concepts was the most fun and challenging. I am learning that drawings can express things that, for me, words cannot.
In light of your feedback, what theme/ideas do you intend to develop into a final deliverable poster> Please describe your intentions for the tone of voice/ functionality of its artwork.
- After the feedback I had a change of mind as to which theme to go before, which is now the "Nonsense Stories". It seems to be a firm favourite with others, in its humour but also unusual and interesting concepts. It is also the most difficult!
Outline briefly how you intend to generate the final deliverable artwork. Consider media, method, design and application. What are the next steps required in development and refinement of your poster?
- At this point I have a lot of thinking to do in regards to the final presentation. The addition of text being allowed in the final design was a huge turning point in the decision to carry this theme. I will try it without, but alas the final image might be too confusing (even for something so bizarre).
- I will have to make a decision as to how to present the images. The original prototypes had a panelled layout but the brief suggests a vignetted/ spot approach.
- There was a consideration of having four vertical nonsense stories aligned with eachother to solve the problem of an uneven grid, but that could be easily be misread from left to right.
- Media-wise I think something bold will go nicely with the bizarre nature of this project! Perhaps ink with a focus on bold outlining, but also with the opportunity for washes. Simplicity may be key.
