Colourless Tsukuru Tazaki and his Years of Pilgrimage was the book I mostly based the summer illustrations on, despite being the book that bothered me most (perhaps to rebel against this Tsukuru character). Still it offered some nice imagery- literal and metaphorical.
I took some of the metaphorical imagery and illustrated it in a somewhat literal way, which makes weird/ interesting enough images but is perhaps too simple a way to look at it.
I played with figures a little, particularly for the character Shiro. Maybe this long otherworldliness is a little cliche, but it is hard to imagine her as anything else.

Thinking about character hierarchies in Colourless…

Simple train station imagery, not focusing on the story itself so much but the motifs and the world it is in instead

Starting to consider ways of presenting the idea of parallel worlds that haven't been described physically in Murakami's work. It feels a bit too easy to look at reflections and glasses and glitches, but are they good because they're recognisable visual language?
Some work based on the book After Dark. Trying to capture the surreal but so far still feels too literal.
