about the author: study task- animations made using After Effects

I actually found it quite hard to find some animations made with After Effects I liked, initially. I'm not sure about the mechanics of how the program works, but a lot of the animations I saw looked cheaply done, like the images were just being warped and pushed to give the illusion of movement whilst looking strange and unnatural.

Perhaps the key to making an animation with this simple looking (not simple to do, but simple looking results) is to keep the result intentionally simple.

MIRAGE from Frederic Kokott on Vimeo.

MIRAGE by Frederic Kokott takes advantage of this, with smooth and simple panning shots. It also made me consider how non-character based animation or something more abstract could be an effective  way of animating for this project.

MODERN by Mirae Mizue also works in a similar way, though does bring in more complex movement, and again is making me consider the abstract as a method of communication.

Childhood of a Circle from Kadavre Exquis on Vimeo.

Chhildhood of a Circle is one of the more complex animations I found under the After Effects category, and its different looking production makes me wonder if some frame based animation was involved. Still, it would be good to know if more complex movement is achievable in AE (I still don't know how it works). Visually it is more complex too than most, just in a still frame, and maybe even if an animation is quite still maybe it can be brought to life by the amount of detail and craft in those limited movements.
