visual communication: initial character designs

  • I struggled to come up with ideas for themes of characters. I even made that itself into a theme- a frustration at my own apathy of interests etc
  •  I mostly stuck to the original starting point of creating themes from the three areas of frustration, amusements and interests, which was a silly move considering it was made clear we could go away from that. I did find once I eventually moved away from it it was easy to create ideas, but then again the boundaries (I set upon myself) also created some interesting results.
  • I didn't manage my time well for this project. I got caught up in creating more characters or developing than necessary for certain themes and as a result didn't manage the fifteen theme total. In a way I feel like this time was spent in a good way regardless, although there would be time to do this at a later time!

  • So far I'm not sure what characters to develop. The evil but charismatic disco leaf  is interesting because of the way he changes form as he turns, which could be good to animate. I like the surrealness of the sun in the eyes. I like the space dogs, mainly out of personal interest, but they also feel like the most rounded characters right now- more of  a backstory, maybe more of a personality.

FEEDBACK

  • there is too much writing in my sketchbook! although I find writing the quickest method of noting down ideas before I forget them I agree I should interrogating more through image making. It's a hard habit to break when it is so natural though.
  • question how colour can affect character
  • visually pleasing and interesting!
